Jerome A. Parker
Jerome A. Parker is a Harlem-based, award-winning playwright from NYC (the Bronx). His plays have been seen at the Public Theater (BLISS), the Old Vic (MACBETH, AGAIN!), the Cherry Lane (BALLAD OF SAD YOUNG MEN), BAAD! (UNDETECTABLE) and the Los Angeles Theater Center (HOUSE OF DINAH) amongst others.
Honors include a graduate Lorraine Hansberry Award (MIRACLE ON MONROE), Tim Robbins Award (UNDETECTABLE), fellowships with Old Vic/New Voices and the O'Neill Theater Center, a special citation from Freedom Train Productions as a Citizen Theater Artist and a 2011 Lark PONY nomination. He’s an alumnus of Williams College, Juilliard’s Professional Production Program, UCLA (MFA/Playwriting), Prep for Prep 9, the New York Musical Theater Festival, the Public Theater's Emerging Writers Group 2011, and the Fire This Time Festival 2012-2013.
Most recently he served as the librettist and co-lyricist for STRANGE FELLOWE (a jazz opera). For a workshop held in Los Angeles, he continued his collaboration with Nick DePinna, Hitomi Oba, and Andrew Russell on the first act of this new musical project, whose music was released this past fall.
Currently he is a Resident Artist (librettist), 2013-14, with the American Lyric Theater where he is developing a new opera for modern audiences.
